Interested in more intuitive teaching of the “displacement current”, we briefly present how this subject is introduced in three didactic works, which we consider to be the most used in undergraduate courses. Then we approach the subject “displacement current” discussing in detail the Ampère-Maxwell law for a point charge moving with uniform and non-relativistic velocity, with electric and magnetic fields given by Coulomb's law and the Biot-Savart law, traditionally addressed in undergraduate courses. We show that the displacement current has a more intuitive physical meaning and that it generalizes the current density, making the Ampère-Maxwell equation more symmetrical with Faraday's law.
